    Not recommended

I booked for afternoon tea. The title 'Townhouse Restaurant' is a misnomer as we were actually sitting in the reception with staff passing with laundry and ladders as well as guests arriving and leaving with luggage. Food arrived but we had to ask for plates. Tea arrived but we had to ask for milk. In the teapot was one teabag which meant the tea was like dirty dishwater. Every so often the air-conditioning would come on causing a blast of cold air all around our table. There was a complete lack of atmosphere. With afternoon tea on offer in so many lovely places in Edinburgh I would definitely put the Grosvenor at the bottom of the list.

    Fantastic Fish Restaurant

We had a great evening in Cadiz, I would definitely go back. The chorizo starter was absolutely fantastic and the sea bass main was beautiful. The staff were very helpful and couldn’t have done more to make us feel welcome. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes seafood!

    Very good value

On arrival there was apparently an issue with booking email. Then advised that restaurant was not normally open on a Sunday so they were not serving the offer menu. When this was challenged, waitress went to speak to her boss and returned with offer menu. Starter was fried squid which was a bit tough unfortunately. With the batter not as crisp as it could have been, suggests not cooked at high enough temperature or as quickly as it should have been. Fish of the day dish was sea bream, which was excellent. Cooked perfectly as were the vegetables. Tartare sauce could have had a bit more bite perhaps. Panacotta was good and obviously made in house but would suggest raspberry coulis to go with it, as the strawberry offered lacked flavour and was thin. Decent bottle of Orvietto and coffee was decent enough. Overall, could have been a wee bit better but was very good value with prompt service after initial hiccup over booking.

    Townhouse Restaurant, Grosvenor Hotel

When you book an afternoon tea with a friend and arrive at the venue, you don’t expect to be met by a member of staff who, on being asked where we should go, says “I should have guessed”.....then walks off leaving you both to follow him. However, follow him we did to a table for two where we were brusquely asked if we wanted tea or coffee; no tea offered apart from English breakfast tea. A half-filled pot of tea, and my friend’s choice of coffee were produced, along with the afternoon tea itself. However, no description of the food was offered and the waiter couldn’t have seemed more disinterested if he had tried. The choice of food and presentation was good, but the customer service was awful; we were only offered one refresh of our tea/coffee and then no member of staff came anywhere near us. Terribly disappointing; in today's climate an afternoon tea isn’t something we book terribly often, even if it is on a voucher code or special offer, and because of the lack of customer service we certainly wouldn’t hurry back to this venue.

    Good food and decent portions

I haven't been to Nepal, but there appeared to be some dishes that were authentic. They certainly tasted good. The naan bread was really fresh, service was friendly, and the beer was good. We were there during the Edinburgh Festival, so having a booking meant we were not turned away at the door like many others were!
