Great food at a great price

Food was outstanding and fantastic value for money and a great variety to choose from. Great service and the manager also came and asked how everything was with our meal.

Merchant City music bar and restaurant

An inviting space with a cool, contemporary décor, Avant Garde is a lively music bar and restaurant on King Street in the Merchant City. The huge windows are great for people watching but much of the attention focuses on the regular live music, especially the weekend ceilidh and jazz sessions. The kitchen delivers a popular mix of bar classics and Mediterranean favourites with a strong Greek and Italian emphasis.

Freshly prepared British and Mediterranean dishes

All the food at Avant Garde is prepared using fresh, locally sourced ingredients and is cooked to order. In addition to a good value lunch menu, Avant Garde runs a full a la carte. The menu features a wide selection of burgers, pasta and risotto alongside traditional choices such as mac ‘n’ cheese; steak and ale pie and haggis.

The dishes showing more of a Med influence include moussaka, pork or chicken souvlaki and chicken Milanese. From a Belgian chocolate sundae to warm sticky toffee pudding via walnut pie with vanilla pod ice cream, the Avant Garde desserts offer plenty of choice.

Local attractions and transport

Located on King Street, Avant Garde is convenient for shows at the Old Fruitmarket, the Tron and Barrowland. There is car parking at King Street and the nearest train stations are at High Street and Argyle Street. Numerous buses run along Trongate and from the St Enoch Bus Station. The transport hubs of Queen Street and Central stations are a brisk ten minute walk.
