Nestled between Loch Morar and the famous Silver Sands beaches, The Morar Hotel has been offering traditional Highland hospitality for over 100 years. Guests can enjoy breathtaking coastal scenery stretching all the way to the Inner Hebridean islands of Rum and Eigg.

Built way back in 1902, this family-run hotel is next to Morar train station and not far from the Skye ferry service. Fort William is only a 45-minute drive away.

You can even watch the famous Harry Potter “Hogwarts Express” train pass by from time to time, en-route to the iconic Glenfinnan viaduct.

As well as a lounge bar, The Morar Hotel also has a restaurant with panoramic views.

All guest rooms are ensuite with free WiFi, satellite TV, a phone, welcome tray, fluffy towels, toiletries and individually controlled heating.

Some rooms also have sea views.

The Silver Sands Restaurant serves made-to-order Scottish fare that can be enjoyed while gazing out at incredible views of the Morar Estuary.

The chef likes to use local produce as much as possible, ideally organically sourced. Plus as the bustling fishing port of Mallaig is only three miles away, fresh fish is a frequent special (including the port’s famous smoked herring).

The menu changes regularly but sample mains include Balmoral chicken, darne of salmon and Mediterranean penne pasta. There is also a grill section offering steaks and chicken.

On finer days you can dine on the terrace and breathe in the clear Highland air.

Castles, scenery and marine life

Guests can explore plenty of local historic sights, as well as endless walking and cycling tracks across the Highland moors.

Key attractions include Armadale Castle, Eilean Donan Castle and the striking white sandy arc of Camusdarach Beach. It is also well worth taking a trip on the award-winning Seaprobe Atlantis glass-bottomed boat tour (if you’re lucky, you might even spot seals, dolphins and whales).
