Description

Traditional hotel in Fort William

A traditional 19th century hotel, The Alexandra Hotel, or The Alex as it’s known locally, has been an iconic Fort William landmark for 125 years. It is situated in the town centre, minutes away from the High Street, bus and train station and pier.

The hotel has 93 bedrooms, which due to the age and nature of the hotel are each individual in size and shape, but as standard have en suite bathrooms, a television, a hairdryer, a direct dial telephone and tea and coffee making facilities.

h3. Two restaurants

There are two restaurants within The Alexandra Hotel, the Linnhe Restaurant and The Bistro. The Linnhe Restaurant is a bright and airy and serves traditional dishes to suit every taste. Popular options include the roast topside of beef served with a rich chasseur sauce and chicken and leek casserole in a cream sauce topped with mashed potato.

Those with a sweet tooth will delight in the dessert section, which includes a selection of treats like Bailey’s and chocolate cheesecake and raspberry cranachan.

The Bistro serves a more eclectic menu. There is a wide range of meat and seafood dishes, like steak and Scottish ale pie, served with carrots, snap peas and chunky chips, and grilled fillet of seabass with crushed new potatoes, wilted greens, and a white wine, spinach and mussel sauce. There is also a Scottish tapas section which includes dishes like crispy black pudding bites, mushroom and asparagus filo tart, and crayfish tail cocktail.

The restaurants can accommodate dietary requirements if notified in advance.

Guests can also tuck into bar dishes in the hotel’s cosy bar.

Leisure club

Guests have the option of using the leisure facilities at the nearby Ben Nevis hotel, just a four minute drive away.

The leisure club boasts a 50 foot, 84-degree heated swimming pool, a jacuzzi with mountain views, a sauna, a steam room, and a state of the art gym.

Things to do in Fort William

Fort William, in the heart of the Highlands, is best known for being the home of the UK’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis.

Aside from scaling its heights, visitors to the town can also go skiing or snowboarding at nearby Aonach Mor, visit the magnificent Lochaber, hop on the “Harry Potter” Jacobite steam train which leaves from Fort William, go mountain biking, or sip a dram in one of the local traditional pubs.
