The Bonham Hotel Edinburgh

Set in Drumsheugh Gardens, a secluded crescent in the West End, The Bonham was created from three Victorian townhouses.

A lovely boutique hotel, it features 49 individually styled rooms; a sophisticated, wood-panelled restaurant and a very cosmopolitan bar.

While it enjoys a tranquil location, the hotel is just a short walk from Princes Street and the boutique shops of the West End. The Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle and St Giles’ Cathedral are all within easy strolling distance.

The hotel offers limited, paid car parking on a first-come-first-served basis – a valuable feature in central Edinburgh.

Haymarket and Waverley train stations are under a ten minute taxi ride.

Ranging from cosy rooms to enormous suites, The Bonham’s 49 en-suite bedrooms have been individually conceived and decorated. Many enjoy spectacular views over Edinburgh’s rooftops or even over the Forth to Fife.

The rooms all feature top quality bed linens, televisions and complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi. They cleverly combine the high ceilings and period feel of Victorian townhouses with smart and bright modern design features such as colourful headboards and designer lighting.

As well as the wood panelling which gives the dining room a cosy, clubby feel, the Restaurant at The Bonham enjoys striking views over the north of the city.

The chefs here like to use sustainable, seasonal and local ingredients to create classic European dishes with a Scottish twist.

The menus are updated regularly. Typical starters might be the Scottish grouse served with ceps, a quail egg and a Madeira reduction or the slow-cooked squid with a West Coast scallop, black pudding and apple.

Popular main courses include the hake fillet landed at Scrabster or the pork belly with a white bean and chorizo cassoulet.

There is always a selection of steaks from cattle raised in the Borders and a selection of vegetarian dishes such as the fregola salad with roast spiced cauliflower, saffron, dates and olives

As well as the a la carte menu, there is a well priced market menu offering two or three courses at a set price.
Many guests enjoy taking afternoon tea in the eye-catching Consulting Room bar.

Others prefer the Boozy Snoozy lunch for four. A three course meal each plus a couple of bottles of wine makes for a very pleasant way to pass an afternoon.

As mentioned, The Bonham is just a short walk from Princes Street; the boutique shops of the West End and many of Edinburgh’s major attractions.

Many of the city’s theatres and cinemas are clustered just off Lothian Road, a ten minute stroll from the hotel.

For a spot of relative peace and quiet, do as the locals do and pay a visit to the Royal Botanic Gardens.

If you are in the capital for major festivals such as the Fringe or Hogmanay, The Bonham is convenient for many major venues and festival sites while avoiding the crowds and the noise that accompanies them.
