A former Royal Burgh, the village of Sanquhar offers lovely walks along the River Nith. Its tiny post office is the oldest working one in the world and was founded in 1712. The village has various nice cafes, plus is home to the popular A’ The Airts gallery and also has a golf club.

The surrounding area offers various stunning walks, giving you a chance to enjoy some gorgeous Dumfries & Galloway scenery. Other local attractions include Sanquhar Castle, Sanquhar Tolbooth Musuem and the Crawick Multiverse, an amazing land art project by Charles Jencks. Created in a megalithic style, the Multiverse is a series of stone arrangements with an astronomical theme.

There are also two grand old houses nearby that you can tour — Dumfries House and Drumlanrig Castle.
