    Another fantastic stay here

This was our second stay here - it's such a lovely place to stay in a beautiful, quiet spot (if you're looking for lively, stay somewhere else). Food (we dined on the first night only) was wonderful. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. The real fires made the rooms so cosy in comparison to the gales howling outside. Newspapers and games on hand to while away the time (not to mention a wide range of wines, whisky and gins). What's not to like? A wonderful opportunity to recharge your batteries.

Knockinaam Lodge is the only luxury boutique hotel in Dumfries & Galloway. Overlooking a private beach at the edge of the Irish Sea, the hotel boasts 3 AA red stars plus a Michelin star and 3 AA food rosettes for its exquisite restaurant. The hotel is based in the scenic village of Portpatrick and is the ideal vantage point for exploring the coastline and mountains of the region.

Luxury bedrooms

With just ten individually designed luxury bedrooms and suites, Knockinaam provides a relaxed, home away from home atmosphere with highly individualised guest services. Room facilities include an LCD flat screen TV with Freeview, a DVD player with an extensive DVD library, luxury toiletries by Purdies of Argyle, fluffy bathrobes, tea or coffee on arrival, a portable hairdryer, complimentary bottled water and a nightly turndown service.

3 AA Rosette dining

Knockinaam Lodge has a noted reputation for Chef Tony Pierce’s tremendous food that is served in the romantic, candlelit restaurant. The kitchen makes as much as possible in-house, from freshly baked bread each day to the wonderful raspberry jam and marmalade at breakfast to the tasty petit fours at the end of dinner.

The restaurant offers a five course tasting style menu that changes regularly. Here is a typical example:

- Grilled fillet of salted cod with a red pepper emulsion and green olive tapenade.
- Cauliflower and flat parsley soup with white truffle oil.
- Roast breast of free range chicken with wild garlic, parsnip puree, charred tenderstem broccoli and a Madeira sauce.
- Warm pear and almond tart with praline creme Chantilly and Amaretto sabayon.
- Coffee and petit fours.

The extensive wine cellar has won several awards while the whisky list features more than 120 malts.
