Description

The Tontine Hotel is a distinctive and imposing building on Peebles High Street which dates back to 1806.

With modern, cosy surroundings, two restaurants, and a bar and lounge, the hotel is perfect for both a relaxing break or a base in which to explore the surrounding beauty of the Scottish Borders.

It has picked up the Scottish Town Hotel Award at the Scottish hotel Awards on three occasions, testament to the friendly, family-run establishment’s flair for traditional Borders hospitality.

Comfortable bedrooms

The hotel has 36 en-suite bedrooms, some with views of the river and Tweed Green. All bedrooms have new Hypnos beds and are fitted with a flat screen television, wireless internet, direct-dial telephone, hairdryer and a welcoming tea and coffee tray.

Cots, highchairs, irons and boards are available by prior arrangement and there is car parking on site, free to residents.

The hotel’s garages ensure secure, overnight parking of mountain bikes, road bikes, and motorbikes. The pressure washer is available if guests want to rinse off their bike after a day outdoors.

Dining options

Guests choosing to dine in The Tontine can choose from the elegant Adam Room Restaurant or the informal, contemporary setting of the Bistro.

Varied menus are inspired by the wealth of fresh, quality produce available locally throughout the Scottish Borders. Meats come from Lauder and St Boswells; fish from Newhaven and Eyemouth; vegetables from East Lothian and soft fruits from Perthshire.

Afternoon tea is served in the hotel’s Callants Lounge and features home made cakes, freshly baked scones, buttery Scottish shortbread and Brodies of Edinburgh tea and coffee, with the option of adding Prosecco.

The hotel’s Tweeddale Shoot Bar serves a range of lagers, craft beers, cocktails and wines.

Dog friendly

Dogs can stay in the hotel’s Riverside Lodge Bedrooms. A cosy blanket, bowl for fresh water and doggy treat will be provided to ensure all four legged friends are thoroughly pampered. Dogs can also hang out in the hotel’s bar, bistro and garden.

The countryside surrounding the hotel has scenic walks perfect for dogs which the hotel can provide maps and information about nearby activities.

The Tontine Hotel is the ideal base for exploring the Borders. The historic towns of Melrose and Jedburgh are within easy reach and outdoors activities abound. The Glentress Forest mountain bike centre is close by, offering a variety of challenging trails.
