Highlights
- Four star historic inn
- Repeated Scottish Inn of the Year award winner
- Blue Coo Bistro serving seasonal, local produce
- Beer garden
The Buccleuch Arms Inn is a repeated winner and nominee of the Scottish Inn of the Year award at the Hotel Awards, the Oscars of the Scottish hospitality industry. These awards are just the latest accolade in the former coaching inn’s illustrious 180-year history of providing bed, board, beef and beer to Borders visitors.
Atmosphere is present in abundance in the elegant old inn, but the place doesn’t live in the past. It has maintained its impressive reputation by offering contemporary comforts, some excellent dining and fare that emphasises locality from meat through to ales.
Bedrooms at The Buccleuch Arms
All bedrooms in The Buccleuch Arms are located on the first floor of the hotel and comprise a mixture of standard doubles, classic twins, and superior king size beds.
Their beds, duvets, pillows and linen are carefully chosen for comfort and quality to ensure all guests have a great night’s sleep.
All bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms with complimentary Liberty & Green toiletries.
Dining
Owners of The Buccleuch Arms Billy and Rachael Hamilton come from a farming background and hold a field to fork ethos. They pay great attention to its food sourcing, working closely with local suppliers.
There are plenty of options to tempt guests to dine at the inn. The Blue Coo Bistrot specialises in Aberdeen Angus steaks from the Scottish Borders offering cuts of thick rib, bullet and rump.
Non meat eaters are catered for with the seasonal salads, risottos and pastas.
There is also a children’s menu for young diners.
The relaxed bar also offers popular pub classics and the Buccleuch’s own burgers, using more of that exemplary beef.
A breakfast menu is served daily with dishes like a full Scottish breakfast, smoked Musselburgh kipper, eggs benedict, and more.
The Buccleuch Arms also serves a carefully selected and well researched wine list. With the use of their Verre de Vin preservation machine they are able to open many more wines by the glass.
Local area
The Buccleuch Arms is in Scott Country and even those whose knowledge of the writer is limited to schooldays struggles with Ivanhoe will appreciate a visit to Sir Walter’s home, the nearby Abbotsford House, with its formal gardens and tranquil woodlands.
St. Boswells is an attractive village on the Tweed and nearby Melrose is a charming place to explore, with local shops and the romantic ruins of the Abbey.
