About The Eisenhower Hotel at Culzean Castle

Located on the top floor of the cliff-hugging Culzean Castle, The Eisenhower is named after the wartime American President who often stayed there from 1945 to 1969.

Labelling it his Scottish Whitehouse, President Eisenhower said of his accommodation: ‘This is a place I can relax’.

Now a hotel, guests can follow in Ike’s footsteps and appreciate the building’s luxurious surroundings.

Period features and spectacular views

Set in Culzean Country Park, and often said to be the last great masterpiece of the Georgian architect Robert Adams, Culzean Castle sits on top of Ayrshire most dramatic sea cliffs.

Combining beautiful period features and spectacular sea views, The Eisenhower Hotel at the top of the castle now offers six unique bedrooms and Adam’s dramatic circular saloon for guests to enjoy.

Dining Room

The dining room at The Eisenhower Hotel at Culzean Castle was used by Eisenhower to entertain his guests, and the layout, as well as much of the furniture, is the same today as it was when he sat at the head of the table.

The elegant yet cosy room has stunning views over both the Fountain Court Garden to the south and the Firth of Clyde towards “Ailsa Craig” to the west.

Chefs at the hotel create dishes using local produce, including fruit and vegetables grown in the gardens of the hotel.

The menu changes according to the seasonal availability of the produce but dishes may include roast Ayrshire chicken breast with haggis, whisky cream and oatmeal potato, or slow cooked Scottish beef with Arran ale, chive mash and horseradish cream.

The chefs will happily tailor a menu to individual dietary requirements and a children’s menu can also be provided on request.

Drawing room

Afternoon tea and drinks from the bar are served in the Drawing Room of the The Eisenhower Hotel.

The elegant, circular room boasts breathtaking and panoramic views across the Firth of Clyde towards the Isle of Arran and, on a clear day, Northern Ireland.

Those who want a cosy ambience can take the seats by the room’s two fireplaces.

Guests at The Eisenhower Hotel at Culzean Castle can enjoy walks along the stunning Culzean coastal path or through the beautiful country park right on the doorstep.

The hotel will happily provide information on a wide range of activities such as clay pigeon shooting, horse riding, archery, sailing or spa days.

With some of the world’s most famous golf courses within easy reach of the hotel, visitors may enjoy a round of golf at Royal Troon, Old Prestwick and Turnberry, where Eisenhower, a keen golfer, played when he visited Culzean.

Guests can also enjoy the all the Burns attractions at Ayr or take part in whisky tasting at a local distillery.
