Description
Perched on the Ayrshire Coast and offering parklands, woodlands and gardens to explore, Kelburn Castle and Estate is a fascinating spot for bit of glamping.
The estate is filled with unique storybook attractions, such as a castle painted with fairytale images, a secret forest and a tumbling waterfall with a grotto. Throw in your own scenic yurt and you’ve got an outdoor adventure with a difference, all on the doorstep of Largs.
Eco-friendly yurt with a view
Your glamping yurt will be nestled beside a burn on a scenic hillside offering incredible views over the Firth of Clyde all the way to Arran.
Each yurt can fit up to four people and has a wood-burning stove with logs felled on the estate, perfect for cosy evenings. You will also have a picnic table for al fresco dining and a fire pit for roasting marshmallows, as well as a drinking water tap, bed linen, table and chairs.
A compostable loo can be found beside the site and there is a toilet block with hot showers a short walk away. There is no electricity, so each yurt will have a small, eco-friendly solar panel powering two internal lights.
Please note that the site is located up a moderately steep path, but staff can help you to carry your belongings up it.
Woodland estate with castle
You will find lots to do on the Kelburn Estate, with the centrepiece being a 13th century castle painted with a colourful mural.
Children and adults can explore the enchanted woodland pathways of The Secret Forest with its hidden maze, fairy gardens, pagoda, swamps for crocodiles and houses for giants.
Kelburn is also famous for its many unusual trees, including the Weeping Larch and 1000 Year Old Yews. At the bottom of the glen is a waterfall with a spectacular grotto, while the 18th century walled garden is ideal for picnicking or relaxing with a book. Or you could soak up the spirit of Scotland in the saltire-shaped garden.
Kids will be kept entertained in any weather with The Adventure Park, Wild West Saloon and Indoor Playbarn. The estate also has a gift shop and café.
Ayrshire adventure
Based near the popular seaside town of Largs, Kelburn Estate is perfectly placed for exploring the Ayrshire coastline. Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park is also right next door, making this a great hiking spot.
Golfers can head to nearby Largs Golf Club, while history lovers can visit the Robert Burn’s Cottage in Alloway, less than an hour’s drive away.
