Columba Hotel

The Columba Hotel is based in the heart of Oban, where it overlooks the ocean from its vantage point on the North Pier. The distinctive redbrick building dates back to the 19th century and still retains much of its Victorian charm. The hotel is well placed for exploring the town, the surrounding countryside and islands such as Mull and Iona. It is also just over two hours away from Glasgow, making it handy for a beachy Highland getaway.

Contemporary rooms

The Columba’s 50 bedrooms are decorated in a contemporary art style and have views of the harbour, sea or hills. Each has a comfy bed, complimentary toiletries, flat screen HD TV with digital channels, free WiFi, phone, hairdryer, desk, hot drink making facilities and individual heaters. The hotel has a lift to every floor and there is also a laundry service. Guests pay a supplement for a sea view room.

Italian and Scottish food

Bar Rio is the hotel’s friendly and relaxed, Italian-themed eating spot. Mains include a range of pastas, pizzas and gourmet burgers, plus traditional Scottish favourites and grill items.

Although menus can change, expect Chef’s Choice dishes such as the rigatoni Salvatore with chicken and king prawns, the Royal Scottish burger with mature cheddar and bacon, and the Pizza Rio meat extravaganza, as well as classics like steak and ale pie, beer-battered haddock and fresh fillet of Scottish salmon. There is also a children’s menu available.

The cocktail list has plenty of choice and includes classic concoctions, champagne mixers and mocktails.
