The Anchor Hotel & Barge is a peaceful waterside escape in the pretty village of Tarbert on Loch Fyne. As you might guess by the name, the Anchor offers a choice of two luxury accommodation options — the hotel itself and a unique barge with cabin rooms.

A relaxing sleep

Each snug and welcoming ensuite room at the Anchor Hotel is designed around giving you a good night’s rest, meaning you can enjoy walking across soft, rich carpeting before climbing into your Hypnos bed with bespoke headboard.

The decor is contemporary Scottish in style with high quality fixtures and fittings. Room features include a shower, WiFi, wall-mounted flat screen TV, hospitality tray, ironing station, hairdryer, telephone and specially selected Arran Aromatics toiletries.

You also have the option of upgrading to a harbour or sea view room.

Luxury on the loch

If you are staying in the Anchor Barge accommodation, you will be given a warm welcome by a member of staff, who will lead you to your luxury cabin on the water. Inside, you will find a special treat waiting for you — a selection of handmade petit fours from the kitchen brigade.

All cabins offer superior rooms decked out in chic, luxury furnishings with earthy wooden tones. Features include a generously sized wet room with power shower, a delicious in-room coffee selection, Arran Aromatics toiletries, wireless broadband and an iHome Bluetooth connective radio & docking station.

Stylish Scottish and international dining

The hotel’s Seabed Restaurant is a welcoming, contemporary space decorated in soft muted colours, with nautical art on the walls. Dishes blend Scottish and international flavours, with ingredients locally sourced from Argyll, including excellent seafood, meat and vegetables. There is also a children’s menu available.

Menus can change with the seasons, but typical mains could include the Chef’s Own Venison Pie with poached potatoes, braised red cabbage and roasted root vegetables, the confit duck legs with basil crushed potatoes, stir-fried greens and plum sauce, and the vegetarian risotto or linguine with beetroot, spinach, feta cheese, toasted pine nuts and pomegranate.

After dining, you can retire to the Loch Fyne lounge bar to sample the hotel’s vast selection of smooth malt whiskies.

Whether you love golfing, wildlife, outdoor adventures or just gazing at romantic fairytale castles, you won’t be bored in Argyll. As well as lovely Loch Fyne and Tarbert village, Loch Lomond is nearby too, with opportunities for boat tours and water activities. You could also hike the Kintyre Trail, tour Glengoyne distillery or go shopping at Jenners Department store. Or if you fancy an island adventure, then Islay, Jura and Gigha are all within convenient reach. Other activities in the area include horse riding, golfing and sailing.
