Tor-Na-Coille Hotel is a privately owned Victorian country house hotel near the village of Banchory in Royal Deeside. Set in acres of wooded grounds close to the River Dee, it is a striking granite building with panoramic views of Scotty Hill. A full refurbishment has added extra comforts to the historic building.
The hotel is close to the River Dee, Banchory Golf Club and Crathes Castle. It offers individually decorated rooms, an award-winning fine dining restaurant with scenic views, and a lounge bar with cosy armchairs and a whisky selection.
The hotel has 25 individually styled rooms, each with its character and distinct country charm. All have period furniture and many offer views over the surrounding countryside, Scotty Hill or the golf course.
Comfy touches include fluffy, plump towels; bathrobes, toiletries and a hospitality tray. You will also have a digital TV, WiFi, hairdryer, and iron with ironing board.
Soaked in natural daylight, the restaurant at Tor-Na-Coille offers lovely views of the grounds and surrounding countryside. On warm, sunny days and evenings, you can even dine al fresco on the lawn.
Head Chef Colin Lyall has built up an enviable reputation for combining both contemporary and classic cooking styles in an innovative way. Dishes use the best seasonal and locally sourced produce from Royal Deeside and Aberdeenshire.
Menus can shift with the seasons, but sample mains include pork fillet wrapped in proscuitto with Dauphinoise potatoes or seared and braised beef with truffle mash. Veggies can sample dishes such as the parmesan black olive & pine nut risotto cake.
After dining, you can sit back on one of the comfy sofas in the lounge area and enjoy a whisky, liqueur or coffee.
If you enjoy golfing, fly fishing or walking, then you are spoilt for choice as Tor-Na-Coille offers plenty of opportunities close by.
There are also castles and distilleries aplenty in the region, such as Crathes Castle, just a 15-minute drive from the hotel. Near to it is the Victorian station for the Royal Deeside heritage steam railway which has a carriage tearoom, craft shops and art gallery. You can even book a cream tea experience on the train.
