One of the top kids’ Christmas gifts this year is something called Pie Face.
Involving the unhappy collision of a pie and a player’s face, it does what it says on the tin.
Unless your nearest and dearest are still at primary school, we suggest that today’s Big Deal on a Borders break at the gorgeous Tinto House, near Biggar, might get a better reception on Christmas morning.
With vouchers valid from 2nd January to 29th February 2016, this offer would make a very memorable Christmas present for someone special.
Traditional country house
Nestled in five acres of stunning gardens, this traditional country house hotel is the perfect setting for a short break.
Built in 1914, it has retained the grandeur and charm of the past while also embracing the comforts and conveniences of the modern age.
Stunning architectural details, such as the majestic sweeping staircase with ornate stained-glass windows, and remarkable period pieces, like the penny farthing bicycle and grandfather clock, sit comfortably beside the numerous touches of tasteful modernisation.
Available seven days per week, the Big Deal is for two people to enjoy a stay in a standard or double room at Tinto House.
Option one is £119 for a two night stay with a full Scottish breakfast in the morning and a three course table d’hôte dinner with tea or coffee each evening.
Option two is £50 for a one night bed and breakfast stay.
All rooms are en suite and many enjoy views across the beautiful Clyde Countryside.
They are all fully equipped with free WiFi, freeview television, tea and coffee facilities and the option of room service.
Fridays and Saturdays may be booked, depending on availability, subject to a weekend supplement charge of £40 per room per night.
A full Scottish breakfast each morning is included in both options. Option one also features a three course table d’hôte dinner with tea or coffee each evening.
The dining room offers relaxed and intimate dining in a spectacular setting overlooking the sprawling countryside of the Scottish Borders. As much as possible, all food is sourced locally.
The menu changes regularly but typical choices might be the steak and Broughton ale pie with horseradish mash; the fresh haddock fillet, which is served crumbed or battered with chips, peas and tartare sauce or the savoury leek and mushroom with sage, thyme and nut crumble.
See and do
The area around the hotel has much to offer the visitor. Local attractions include The Kelpies statues; Kailzie Gardens and Dawyck Botanic Garden.
Alternatively, you could play a round at Biggar Golf Club and try to beat the course record which is held by 99’ Open Champion Paul Lawrie.
Tinto House has many admirers on TripAdvisor. We cut this recent review for length:
‘Lovely one night stay… A proper country house hotel… I think we had Room 16 which was huge, lovely views over the gardens. The bed was massive and very comfortable. Spotlessly clean. The bathroom was lovely and again spotless (the bathrooms looked new). Staff were lovely, food was lovely and breakfast great. I would certainly return to this hotel…. We have now recommended to other friends who I know would love it.’
Whether you are looking for a romantic mini-break in the early part of 2016 or simply want to treat someone special to a memorable Christmas gift, this Big Deal with Tinto House is a great way to enjoy the Borders.
