Flash city centre bars are all well and good but sometimes you just can’t be doing with all the swanky nonsense.
All you really want is a friendly neighbourhood bar with a warm welcome; good drinks and tasty, wholesome food.
Step forward today’s Big Deal with the 1901 Bar and Grill in Glasgow’s Southside.
There has been a bar on this Pollokshaws Road site for donkey’s years but, last year, it came under new ownership and was given a tasteful revamp.
Its elegant new looks continue to pull in the customers, many of whom keep on coming back time after time for the friendly service and the hearty food.
Three course meal
Today’s Big Deal with the 1901 is for a 175ml glass of wine and three courses from the menu below. Vouchers are valid for lunch or dinner, Monday to Thursday.
The choice of starters comprises soup of the day; chicken liver pate and the house salad. The main courses on offer are baked salmon; steak ‘n’ ale pie or the veggie pasta with garlic bread.
If you have room then the desserts are sticky toffee pudding; cheesecake or a selection of ice cream.
The 1901 Bar and Grill has collected some nice reviews since re-opening. This is what The Glaswegian newspaper had to say:
‘1901 offers excellent food and the only word of caution I would offer is to not let your eyes get bigger than your belly.’
