Mount Etna has been in the news after it erupted recently.

However, not all volcanoes are bad news.

On Partick Bridge Street, staff at Pizza West have christened their pizza oven ‘The Volcano’.

Rather than belching hot rocks and lava, it delivers super tasty pizza.

West End newcomer

Opened in December, Pizza West is a warm, neighbourhood hangout in the West End.

A simple, bright and airy decor with stripped wood tables creates an informal and welcoming space for enjoying freshly-prepared pizza from the brick oven.

Sourdough pizza and creative toppings

Available noon to 9.30pm, Sunday to Thursday and from noon to 4pm on Fridays and Saturdays, the Big Deal is for two pizzas.

It is as simple as that.

There is a great selection of pizza to choose from.

The Pizza West chefs start with the basics with the classic Marinara and Margherita and then get playful.

Hand-stretched sourdough bases are topped with some creative combinations, before encountering the high temperature oven for that distinctive charred crust.

The Artfunkel adds artichokes, olives and rocket; the Master Kim uses house-smoked chicken and kimchi, while the Rocky IV is a whole-hearted Italian feast with dolcelatte, Italian sausage and mushrooms.

The Volcano is suitably fiery and boasts a topping made with nduja, pickled peppers, fresh chilli and tomato sauce and mozzarella.

Happy pizza munchers

Glasgow Live has reviewed Pizza West and described the pizza as ‘glorious’. In fact, they reckoned that ‘This could be the best pizza in the West End’.

Customers on the restaurant’s Facebook page agree:

‘Was in here recently with my three year-old son and we both really enjoyed it. The (very handsome!) waiter was so attentive, nothing was a problem … he came to the rescue with some colouring crayons when my son started getting quite restless. If you want authentic… pizzas with a unique selection of toppings, you need to visit. It even got a thumbs up from my fussy child.’

‘Seriously good pizza and really reasonably priced with a great bar area if you just fancy a drink in great surroundings (bet you don’t leave without eating!). The tunes need a mention too! I think we’ve found our new regular.’

Pizza West is located on Partick Bridge Street, just a couple of minutes walk from the Kelvinhall subway.

The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum and the Kelvin Hall sports complex are around ten minutes walk away, and the Riverside Museum a little further. The SEC and Hydro are a twenty minute walk.

All of which means that Pizza West would be a handy venue for a pre-show bite or lunch before a mosey around Kelvingrove.
