Lochleven Castle is just a short stroll and a quick boat trip from the Green Hotel. Mary Queen of Scots stayed at the castle three times; twice as a guest and once as a prisoner. She was incarcerated there for nearly a year before she made a daring escape.
Legend has it that she legged it ‘cos the cook in the castle was pants and Queenie was hankering after a slap-up feed in Basil’s Restaurant in the Green Hotel.
Take up today’s Big Deal at the Green Hotel Golf & Leisure Resort and you will wish that you were locked in the resort.
Set in 5,000 acres of beautiful grounds, the resort offers two golf courses; fishing on Loch Leven; excellent cycling and bird watching; curling and a choice of five different restaurants.
Reflecting the hotel’s origins as an 18th century coaching inn, all of the Green Hotel rooms have a Scottish charm far removed from the blandness of so many chain hotels.
Tastefully decorated and furnished, many of the rooms have views over the picturesque central courtyard with its ornamental fountain or over the hotel’s beautiful landscaped gardens.
All of the rooms are decidedly spacious and have en-suite bathrooms, TVs and tea/coffee making facilities as standard. There is free high speed internet access throughout the hotel.
Basil’s Restaurant is a modern European grill restaurant with an imaginative and well-balanced menu to match its extensive wine list. It offers a genuine gourmet experience and has already been awarded its first AA rosette.
