The New York Irish have a mythology that has been perpetuated down the years through classic movies and much of the back catalogue of the Pogues.

It’s a seductive and cinematic imagery that has contributed plenty to the atmosphere at one of Glasgow’s most popular new bars, Rocky O’Sullivan’s, just a short jig away from Queen Street Station.

Since opening in the summer, Rocky O’Sullivan’s has carved out a niche among the Glaswegian cognoscenti with a winning blend of live music, great beers and a user-friendly Irish-American menu that drifts towards the good ole USA but also offers familiar pub classics.

The Big Deal option one is available Sunday to Friday from noon to 4pm and offers one diner a main course chosen from the menu along with a glass of wine, a beer or soft drink.

Option two offers the same deal but is available Sunday to Thursday 5pm-8pm.

Diner classics

Main courses offer plenty of comfort food classics.

Favourites you would find at any US diner include the mac ‘n’ cheese, served with garlic ciabatta, a slow-cooked beef chilli con carne topped with sour cream, and the classic Caesar salad with garlic croutons, shaved parmesan & Caesar dressing.

Dishes from this side of the Atlantic include the steak and Guinness pie with seasonal veg and chunky chips, beer battered fillet of haddock with chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce, and the pork and leek sausages in a red wine and onion gravy on a bed of mash.

Naturally, Rocky’s also serve their own handmade burgers.
