Poets and songwriters have written of springtime in Paris, winter wonderlands and the summertime blues.
What is more surprising is that, so far, no-one has put pen to paper and sung the praises of Ardfern in autumn.
Get inspired with today’s Big Deal on an overnight stay in the Galley of Lorne Inn on the Craignish peninsula, Argyll.
Nestled on the loch side in the picturesque village of Ardfern, the Galley of Lorne started out as a 17th century drovers’ inn.
These days, it is one of the top-rated inns in Argyll with six comfortable and tastefully decorated bedrooms; welcoming bars with roaring log fires and a highly rated restaurant with panoramic views along Loch Craignish and out to Jura and Scarba.
Ideal for exploring the Hebridean islands, nearby castles or just walking along the beach, the Galley of Lorne is the perfect destination for a romantic getaway.
This rather romantic Big Deal is for two people to enjoy an overnight stay in one of the Tiree, Uist, Arran or Islay rooms at the Galley of Lorne Inn including their legendary Highlander full Scottish breakfast which will set you up for a day exploring beautiful Argyll. Or you could choose something a little lighter such as the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs or the local, naturally smoked haddie poached in buttermilk.
After a full day’s adventure, we’re sure you’ll want to dine at the Galley and you are in for a treat; fresh Scottish ingredients, some grown at the inn, are at the heart of the menus. Think along the lines of oven-roasted rack of venison or pan-seared scallops from the Firth of Lorne.
A collection of 50 malts and an ever-changing selection of real ales make both bars rather tempting. If the weather is fine guests can sip a malt, sup a pint or savour a glass of perfectly chilled wine on the sundeck and enjoy the views. On those chillier evenings, you can relax by one of the roaring log fires.
Bedrooms at the Galley are a cosy hideaway to relax and unwind in, and feature double glazing, LCD TV, Freeview channels; clock radio with iPod docking facility and wireless internet access.
The offer is available seven nights a week but there will be a supplement of £10 per room per night for Friday or Saturday stays.
There is also the option to upgrade to the Skye suite which, as well as stunning views looking over Loch Craignish to the Isle of Jura, has a large corner bath with an overhead shower.

‘What a fantastic place. I have travelled all over the world but to find this gem tucked away was unbelievable… the food was fantastic… the view from the bedroom was breathtaking… the staff are first class and will do anything to help. We will be definitely coming back to stay for longer.’
