Anthony and Cleopatra. Romeo and Juliet. Scotland and Italian food. Some matches are forged in heaven and destined to last all eternity.
Help keep Scotland’s love affair with Italian food burning bright by taking up today’s Big Deal at Esca in Glasgow’s Merchant City.
Now in its second decade, Esca, which is conveniently situated just across from the Tron Theatre, serves traditional, regional Italian food with a twist.
Romantically lit by candles at night, the popular Italian bistro has a warm, comfortable interior and friendly staff.
Esca’s 5pm gourmet menu is extensive with a choice of five starters, seven main courses and three desserts.
Typical starters include the steamed mussels, stuffed chillies, minestrone soup and a half portion of penne carbonara.
Among the main courses are a ribeye steak in a brandy and green peppercorn sauce; Chicken and asparagus risotto; pan-fried salmon in a sauce of capers, tomatoes and onions; the spicy Inferno pizza and the penne Primavera which features seasonal vegetables in a light cream sauce.
For dessert, choose between a pear and apple crumble; ice cream or tiramisu.
The Big Deal includes a bottle of house wine and, to finish, a great Italian coffee or, if you prefer, tea.
Esca has long been a big hit with 5pm customers. At the time of writing, there just under 1400 reviews of the bistro by people who had eaten there.
They gave it a cumulative score of 4.3/5. This is what a couple of recent guests had to say:
‘Perfect place for ladies who lunch.’
