Booming since it opened in late 2014, Giffnock’s Catch calls itself a ‘posh, modern day, neighbourhood fish and chip shop and restaurant’.

The newspapers’ restaurant reviewers have had considerably more to say.

The Daily Record’s Gary Ralston reckoned that the fish ‘was first class’ and concluded that ‘This prize Catch is worth the effort.’

Over at The Herald, Ron Mackenna ate a ‘really lovely piece of cleanly fried fish’ and swore that ‘upmarket sit-down fish and chips is clearly the way forward.’

Seven days a week

It’s very straightforward.

Purchases are valid noon to 10pm, Sunday to Thursday, and from noon to 4pm, on Fridays and Saturdays.

A purchase will give you the 5pm Catch platter plus a dessert to share between two.

The platter features the following fishy delights – takes a deep breath: battered haddock, portion of twice cooked chips, fishcakes, mac ‘n’ cheese balls, chicken pakora, salt and chilli squid, mushy peas, catch salad, tartar sauce, sweet chilli sauce.

As far as possible, Catch sources from sustainable, Scottish coastal fisheries which use best practice so you can enjoy your meal with a clear conscience.

For dessert, there’s sticky toffee pudding.

TripAdvisor has plenty of diners who are only too keen to get hooked on Catch.

We smiled at this cheerily tongue in cheek review:

‘Setting the pace in the Southside for contemporary poisson et pommes! Was a bit wary of it being too posh and pretentious when I heard it was a fish ‘n’ Prosecco type place but I was completely disarmed – they’ve pitched it perfectly. Not posh but with a good dose of refinement!’
