The Torrance Hotel

Originally a coaching house, The Torrance Hotel in East Kilbride has provided fine food to visitors for more than 200 years.

In fact, the hotel’s roots go back further than those of afternoon tea, an event which is said to have been invented by the seventh Duchess of Bedford back in 1840.

Bright and airy

The Torrance Hotel is located in The Village, the old part of East Kilbride. Although it dates back to 1793, an award-winning refurbishment has ensured that it looks smartly contemporary.

Along with a bright and airy conservatory, it features a chic lounge bar and restaurant with cosy booths, exposed stone and wood panelling.

Afternoon tea

Available 2.30pm to 5pm, Sunday to Thursday, this Big Deal is for two people to enjoy afternoon tea.

Option two also includes a glass of sparkling wine for each guest.

Afternoon tea at The Torrance Hotel is rather special.

As well as a wrap each, it includes dainty triangle sandwiches with fillings such as sweet chilli chicken, smoked salmon and cream cheese; smoked cheddar and pickle; roast beef and horse radish, egg mayo and micro herbs or honey roast ham and tomato.

Of course, there is a scone for each guest along with clotted cream and jam.

The cakes are fantastic. Look forward to a selection which will include treats such as banoffee tart, strawberry tart, chocolate fudge brownies, millionaires shortcake and lemon posset.

Gluten free cakes, scones and sandwiches are available.

Champagne

There is always the opportunity to top up your glass. An extra glass of Prosecco can be ordered at £4 a pop or you could push the boat out and spoil yourself with a glass of Champagne at £7.
