1973 was a big year. It was the year that Pablo Picasso died and Peter Andre was born thus destroying the notion that the universe is in any way a fair or just place.
Looking on the bright side, it was also the year that the Ashoka West End was founded.
Nearly forty years later, it retains its place in Glasgow’s starry phall firmament.
No-one needs an excuse to eat in one of the city’s Indian legends but today’s Big Deal on a meal at the Ashoka West End means that you have no excuse not to.
3 course meal
This bhoona-loving Big Deal is for two people to each enjoy a starter and main dish from the a la carte menu with one pilau rice and one plain nan to share. For dessert, each diner can choose between creamy kulfi or lovely, sticky, sweet gulab jamun.
King prawn starters and main courses are excluded from this offer as are all tandoori dishes.
At the time of writing, Ashoka West End has been given a whopping 4.3/5 combined rating by 5pm diners who have eaten here.
If Team Big Deal were ordering then we would kick off with haggis pakora and the lightly battered chilli chicken. Or the onion bhajis. Or maybe the mushroom pakora.
Because we like it spicy, mains would probably be the South Indian garlic chilli chicken or the jalfrezi. But we’re also partial to the creamy, coconut flavours of the shakuti and the tangy sweet ‘n’ sour of a classic patia.
The choice, and there is a lot of it, is yours.
Great night out
Available for two people or four, this Big Deal is perfect for curry lovers who want to visit one of Glasgow’s most iconic Indian restaurants. It would also be ideal for celebrating the end of exams; a family meal or even a gift.
