Italians claim to have been the first to come up with parachutes, patent law and pianos.
All very useful but, in Scotland at least, perhaps not quite as popular as the Italian dishes of pizza and pasta.
Take up today’s Big Deal with Piazza Italia in the Merchant City and you can pay homage to not just pasta and pizza and but also that other revered Italian staple: risotto.
Piazza Italia was a hit with the Daily Record’s Tam Cowan whose review ended with the line ‘A great family-run place with a buzzy atmosphere that offers a fine Italian feast.’
If you want to see for yourself just how Piazza Italia floated Tam’s boat then today’s Big Deal is for two people to each enjoy any pasta, pizza or risotto from the a la carte menu.
You can sip on a chilled glass of Prosecco, glass of house wine or half-pint of Tennent’s lager as part of the deal, as you choose.
There are over thirty different dishes to decide between. Whether you want a pizza Romagnola topped with cheese, tomato, rocket and Italian sausage or a classic spaghetti carbonara, there is plenty of choice to tempt the taste buds.
Alternatively, why not try the risotto with asparagus, roasted pine nuts, fresh peas and parmesan? Asparagus is just coming into season and would be perfect for the spring weather we have been enjoying.
There are supplements on the spaghetti seafood, penne pollo and the pizza/risotto spaghetti ‘di Mare (£2) and the penne with fillet steak (£2.95).
Great 5pm reviews
Piazza Italia is popular with 5pm viewers. At the time of writing, just under 350 customers had given a combined score of 4/5.
This is what a recent visitor to Piazza Italia had to say:
‘Very friendly staff in a relaxed cosy setting. The food was delicious and this deal was excellent value.’
