Today’s Big Deal on a wine tasting from Merchant City Wine Tasting is the perfect introduction to the grape’s greatest contribution to civilisation.

Informal and fun

It doesn’t matter if your wine knowledge goes no further than the fact that it comes in white, red and rosé versions – this informal and fun tutored tasting is designed for beginners.

Taking place at Hyde Bar and Grill in Partick, the classes will be held on Wednesday 7th January, Tuesday 20th January, Wednesday 4th February and Thursday 19th February.

The offer is for one person to attend one of the classes.

Wine trade experience

Each class will be taken by Fiona Jamieson of Merchant city Wine Tastings. Fiona has decades of experience in the wine trade and is Wine & Spirit Education Trust qualified.

Lasting around two hours, the classes will feature four wines, two white and two red. The wines will be paired with a selection of canapés.

Guest will learn how to analyse and evaluate wine through the four stages of wine tasting:

Sight – how the wine looks in the glass and what that means.

Aroma – what words to use to describe the nose or bouquet.

Taste – the flavours and balance. How the wines feel in your mouth.

The finish – what happens in your mouth when you taste wine. What lingering flavours are left and how they develop.

Informed decisions

No-one is going to be a Master of Wine by the end of the evening. However, after one of
Fiona’s classes, you will be able to make much more informed choices the next time that you are staring at the wine shelves and wondering what wine will go well that night’s lasagne.

Stylish West End bar

Located on Partick Bridge Street, Hyde Bar and Grill is a good looking and very welcoming West End bar.

With lots of different seating areas, some of which are tucked away from the main bar, it is the ideal venue for these tastings.
