A much sought after dry red wine from the Piedmont region of Italy, Barolo has been called the wine of kings and the king of wines.
A much sought after Italian restaurant in Glasgow city centre, Barolo Grill has been called stunning, smart and buzzy by Tam Cowan, king of the Daily Record’s restaurant reviews.
Barolo Grill was also named the Best New Restaurant in the 2012 Entertainment Guide Awards and runner-up in the Best Newcomer category at the 2012 Scottish Restaurant Awards.
As if that’s not enough, Joanna Blythman of the Sunday Herald gave it 9/10 when she reviewed Barolo Grill shortly after it opened in 2011.
Today’s Big Deal is the perfect way to see why so many people are raving about the Mitchell Street restaurant.
The offer is for one diner to enjoy a three course meal from the 5pm Big Deal menu. With a range of six starters, seven main courses and two desserts to choose from, diners can experience a wide selection of all that Barolo Grill’s kitchen team have to offer.
Typical starters on the Big Deal menu include fishcakes with tartare sauce and a dressed salad; breaded wild mushroom risotto balls with a truffle sauce and pasta e fagioli, the traditional Piedmontese pasta and borlotti bean soup made with fine vegetables, black kale, garlic croutons and shredded Prosciutto.
Main courses on the menu include spicy grilled Tuscan sausage with creamy celeriac mash, Fontina cheese and a black truffle sauce; sea bream with a mixed Italian herb and garlic salsa or the char grilled chicken breast with leek and Parmesan mash potato, seasonal roast vegetables and porcini Marsala sauce.
For a £5 supplement per person, diners can also order the bistecca di manzo – eight ounces of prime Scottish sirloin steak, cooked to your liking and served with chunky hand cut chips and a peppercorn sauce.
For dessert, choose between the chef’s dessert of the day or the classic mascarpone and coffee tiramisu.
Right in the heart of the city, Barolo Grill is two minutes walk from Central Station, Queen Street Station and the Buchanan St Underground Station.
But its handy location is not the only reason why more than 200 5pm diners who have eaten there have given it a cracking combined rating of 4.1/5.
