Lochs may be ten a penny in Scotland but we only have one lake and rather beautiful it is too.
Today’s Big Deal provides the opportunity to enjoy a relaxing two night mini-break in the stunning Lake of Menteith Hotel which sits by the water’s edge.
Part of the Trossachs National Park but just an hour from Glasgow or Edinburgh, the Lake of Menteith Hotel was originally a 19th century manse. Since being bought and revamped in the warm and welcoming style of a classic New England waterfront hotel, it has won numerous awards including Romantic Hotel of The Year 2009 and Country Hotel of 2009.
As the name suggests, the hotel sits by the side of the Lake of Menteith. The glorious views out over the water and to the islands and mountains beyond are broken only by diving osprey and migrating wildfowl.
2 Night mini-break
Available Sunday to Thursday, this great offer is for two people to enjoy a two night break in a classic double or twin at the Lake of Menteith Hotel. A full Scottish breakfast each morning is included in the offer.
As part of the offer, each guest can also enjoy a glass of wine and a dram of whisky each day – ideal for a nightcap, an aperitif or simply a treat after a day spent exploring the surrounding countryside.
Another very civilised feature of this offer is that tea and scones each day are included – perfect for a mid-afternoon bite.
All the rooms have been recently refurbished and come with Tunnocks treats, mineral water plus cafetiere coffee and tea in-room. Free access WiFi is available throughout the ground floor of the hotel and there is a guest access PC on request.
2 AA Rosettes
A full Scottish breakfast is included in the Big Deal. If you also opt to take lunch or dine in the hotel then you are in for a gourmet experience.
The Port Bar offers casual dining and a divine malt selection along with an open fire and large windows looking out onto the Lake.
In the Waterfront Restaurant, the proud holder of two AA Rosettes, you’ll find the finest Scottish produce simply prepared to compliment the breathtaking views out the windows.
Popular dishes are include starters such as the pan-seared Oban scallops with Stornoway black pudding and cauliflower puree or main courses such as the slow cooked shoulder of Scottish lamb flavoured with cumin, garlic, thyme and red wine.
Alternatively, tackle the prime Buccleuch rib-eye – 10oz of well hung, aged beef served with watercress, roasted vine tomatoes, sautéed potatoes and caper butter.
Valid until the 30th of March 2013, this offer would make a cracking Christmas present; a great winter getaway or a romantic spring break.
This Big Deal member has eaten at the hotel and, as well as enjoying a stunning location, the place is gorgeous. But you don’t have to believe us. Check the TripAdvisor comments. Here are a couple of recent guest reviews:
‘Perfect location. This was our 2nd visit for overnight stay at the LAKE and we were not disappointed. Food was excellent and staff (even the new ones) very attentive. Excellent views from the restaurant across the lake.’
‘Romantic relaxation. The trip was intended to be a romantic getaway, to recharge our batteries and have quiet time away from our hectic lives. It was all that and more. We spent our days relaxing, staring off onto the lake, watching the boaters fly fishing out on the lake. The pub was very cozy with roaring fireplace, and perfect remedy on a damp chilly day. Dinner was first-class and the pub offered a great dinner menu.’
