Shhhhh, don’t tell our boss. However, for New Year, Team Big Deal resolved to relax more.
Unsurprisingly, chilling out is proving rather easier than our other resolutions to get fit, drink less and make fewer visits to the office biscuit stash.
In comparison, relaxing more is easy peasy. Especially with today’s Big Deal on a stay at the four star Macdonald Cardrona Hotel, Golf & Spa in Peebles.
Just 40 minutes outside Edinburgh and 90 minutes from Glasgow, Macdonald Cardrona Hotel is set in the beautiful Borders countryside and is an easy to reach spot for a convenient getaway.
Today’s Big Deal comes in two tiers. Option 1 is valid Sunday to Friday and is for two people to relax with an overnight stay in a classic king twin or double room.
The offer includes a three course dinner from the table d’hote menu in the award-winning Renwicks Restaurant along with a bottle of house wine to accompany your meal. A full Scottish breakfast in the morning is also included. Supplements apply to some dishes from the grill section.
Also valid Sunday to Friday, option 2 is for guests to stay two consecutive nights on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis with a bottle of house wine with dinner on the first night.
All guests can also enjoy using the leisure facilities such as the eighteen metre pool, the sauna, gym and steam room.
In addition, for £20 per person, all guests can add a round of golf on the hotel’s magnificent Championship course or a 30 minute treatment in the hotel’s luxurious spa.
There may be availability to upgrade to an Executive room for a supplement of £30 per night payable direct to hotel.
Benefiting from views of the surrounding hills, the classic king bedrooms feature rich, soft furnishings, comfortable beds, blackout curtains and luxury en-suite bathrooms with separate showers.
The proud holders of an AA Rosette, Renwicks Restaurant is an airy and inviting space, featuring panoramic views of the golf course and the Border hills. The chefs use only the finest Scottish beef, lamb, pork and wild white fish and, where possible, also source local, organic suppliers for the vegetables and dairy products.
As well as a full Scottish breakfast, guests will enjoy a three course dinner in Renwicks.
The menu changes regularly but typical starters might be the smoked haddock from John Ross Jr of Aberdeen with a pannacotta, lemon and caper dressing while popular main courses include the braised shoulder of Highland lamb, roast root vegetables and garlic mash.
Championship golf course
For many people, a round on the resort’s Cardrona Championship golf course will be a highlight of their stay.
Designed by former Ryder Cup player Dave Thomas in 2001, the par 72 parkland and woodland course prompted Sandy Lyle to comment that: ‘The Cardrona course will excite, challenge and thrill. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed’.
See & do
Other available activities at the hotel’s activity centre include rock-climbing, abseiling, quad biking, archery or off-road driving. Alternatively, the mountain biking in the nearby Glentress Forest is superb.
The Macdonald Cardrona Hotel, Golf & Spa has plenty of enthusiastic reviews on TripAdvisor. This is what a recent guest had to say:
‘Fabulous hotel and great staff. My husband & I stayed here for a night to celebrate my birthday. We had a lovely, memorable time and will definitely be back for another stay. Scenery was amazing and breathtaking in the crisp, frosty morning. The food in the hotel was excellent, including breakfast. The staff were very attentive and were all lovely in nature. I would recommend to friends & family.’
Take a break
Whether you want to enjoy winter walks in the nearby forests, relax with a round of golf or simply escape the city for a night, today’s Big Deal is your passport to chilling out.
