If you could be any celebrity chef, which one would you be? Fiery Gordon? Finger-licking Nigella? Slightly disturbing Marco Pierre-White? Or perhaps you see yourself more along the lines of mad boffin Blumenthal?
Well, before you start lining up your own range of brand name biscuits and penning your first cookbook, you might need to get some kitchen skills under your belt and that’s where today’s Big Deal at the Tennent’s Training Academy comes in.
Hidden behind the gates of the famous Wellpark Brewery in Glasgow’s East End sits the Tennent’s Training Academy, Scotland’s centre for excellence in entertaining and hospitality training.
The multi-million pound Academy is used to train Scotland’s next generation of top notch chefs but it also opens its doors to the public so that they too can learn the culinary secrets of the country’s finest kitchen artistes.
This Big Deal starts with a tour of the Academy and all its facilities before Academy Head Chef John Quinn, a former British and Scottish Chef of the year, welcomes the class to the state of the art theatre kitchen.
Each student will have their own work station where they can get hands-on experience in the culinary arts.
On the menu are skills such as making bread and fresh pasta; basic cooking techniques; knife skills; simple butchery and how to prepare stocks and sauces.
This would make an ideal gift for a friend or family member who likes to cook and it would also make for a great group day out with chums or through work.
It would be handy if you wanted to brush up on your own kitchen skills or useful for anyone who was curious as to whether or not life in a professional kitchen might be for them.
