In the mood for a romantic break?
Try Melville Castle. When it comes to romance, this stunning destination can have a powerful effect on visitors.
A recent guest left this review on TripAdvisor last week: ‘The visit was so perfect I proposed to my future wife on our stay. If you want romance, this is the place to stay.’
We could also mention that the 18th century sits in extensive parkland grounds and, over the centuries, has hosted distinguished guests such as Queen Victoria and Sir Walter Scott.
It’s also very easy to get to.
Located just 20 minutes from the centre of Edinburgh, Melville Castle combines the elegant period features of its long and illustrious heritage with contemporary comforts and service.
Available Sunday to Friday, this splendid offer is for two people to stay overnight in a classic double or twin room.
Late check out to noon (Sun-Thurs) means that you won’t need to rush your morning.
Classically furnished and individually decorated, the rooms feature complimentary Internet access, crisp linen sheets; fluffy white towels; enchanting views of the surrounding woodland and decadent Gilchrist and Soames toiletries.
Seasonal Scottish cuisine
As well as a full cooked breakfast in the morning, guests will enjoy a two course lunch in the hotel’s Brasserie and the offer also includes a £10 spend per couple for dinner.
The Head Chef at Melville Castle serves seasonal, modern Scottish Cuisine with a strong focus on high quality, locally sourced ingredients.
The menus change regularly but typical starters include the chicken liver pate with red onion chutney and Melba toast or the gravadlax of Wester Ross salmon with pickled cucumber, lemon, wholemeal bread and dill mayo.
Popular main courses include the roasted breast of duck, with dauphinois potatoes, butternut squash, curly kale and a Grand Marnier sauce or the line-caught sea bass in a white wine and chive sauce.
Melville Castle has been wowing visitors for over 200 years. This is what a recent, extremely enthusiastic guest thought of the venue on TripAdvisor. This guest doesn’t appear to have got engaged during her stay but still found the hotel enchanting:
‘WOW! What a fantastic castle and to be able to stay in it was just wonderful. So steeped in history and like no other place I have ever stayed. I was totally and utterly mesmerised by it. We had a four poster bed and chaise lounge and two huge windows with a view to die for – magical – especially at night with all those twinkling stars and the little stream and beautiful landscape – so peaceful and tranquil.’
‘Mesmerising, magical and wonderful.’
All that we can add is: who wouldn’t want to be carried off to an eighteenth century castle for a romantic tryst?
