Apparently, large portions of Corstorphine Hill are to be turned over to bamboo production to satisfy the insatiable hunger of the suburb’s most recent residents: Tian Tian and Yuan Guang.
Fortunately, you don’t have to eat shoots and leaves to enjoy today’s Big Deal on a three course meal for two at Traders Restaurant, one of the pandas’ nearest neighbours.
Situated right next to Edinburgh Zoo and the famous Giant Pandas, not to mention Murrayfield Stadium, Traders Restaurant is part of the Holiday Inn.
As well as views over the Pentland Hills, the restaurant also enjoys a regularly changing menu of modern British and international dishes.
Ingredients such as Blythburgh pork sausages and British chicken fly the flag for home-grown food but the menu is just as likely to feature exotic flavours like the lamb and chorizo pie; the makhani chicken curry or the sizzling Szechuan stir fry.
Starters from the menus might include spicy lamb rolls or grilled veg and Mozzarella bruschetta while dessert options range from sticky toffee pudding to a Mexican choux bun filled with Kahlua cream, chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream.
Three course meal
Today’s Big Deal is for two people to each enjoy a three course meal from the a la carte menu. The only restriction on menu items is the £2.50 per person supplement on choice from the Grill menu.
Today’s Big Deal would be the perfect way to round off a visit to Edinburgh’s new black and white celebrities. Just don’t ask if there are bamboo shoots in the stir fry. Tian Tian and Yuan Guang have got first dibs on all of Scotland’s bamboo.
