Still feeling groggy? Suffering from post-festive fogginess?
Get in the swing of 2016 with an overnight getaway to Ducks Inn at Aberlady.
Half an hour from Edinburgh by car and just eighteen minutes by train, Aberlady is a picturesque little seaside village and the perfect base for exploring East Lothian.
A restaurant with rooms, Ducks is a cosy and welcoming, family-run business with oodles of character – impromptu putting competitions from the bar are not unknown.
Available seven days a week, the offer is for two people to enjoy an overnight stay in a twin or double room with a full Scottish breakfast in the morning – the perfect set-up for a round on one of the many local golf courses.
As part of the offer, there will be a chilled bottle of Prosecco in your room on arrival.
The ensuite rooms have tea and coffee making facilities; king size bath towels; comfy pillows and duvets; flat screen TVs showing a hundred or so channels and free WiFi.
Off road car parking facilities make Ducks all the more convenient.
Dining at Ducks
A full Scottish breakfast is included in the deal. If you choose to take other meals (not included) at Ducks then you are in for a treat.
As well as the bar bistro, Ducks has a two AA Rosette dining room. Fresh, local produce is very much to the fore on menus which feature starters such as Port Seton langoustine with confit pork belly, lemon and tarragon gnocchi, pickled mushrooms and langoustine tea alongside main courses like the roast breast and braised leg of Mallard duck, fondant potato, turnip, beetroots, hazelnuts and jus gras.
The wine list is excellent and, if you really want to make a night of it, Ducks has a good selection of Scotch Malt Whisky Society drams and a well stocked humidor.
See and do
Ducks is surrounded by 21 golf courses, including the famous Muirfield and five Open Qualifying Courses. With advance notice, they are happy to make tee time and transport bookings.
Aberlady Nature Reserve is on the doorstep and it is a big draw for wildlife lovers and twitchers. Other local attractions include Tantallon and Dirleton castles, sea fishing, horse riding and, of course, bracing walks along the beach.
Ducks Inn at Aberlady has many glowing reviews on TripAdvisor:
‘Best of Scotland. We stopped here for a family dinner to celebrate a 38 year wedding anniversary with a group of nine and loved every moment… my taste buds started jumping for joy. Each dish came to the table as if it was from a Michelin star restaurant. Hard to fault.
If you stay late enough you may get the chance to putt from the bar stool. Fantastic service, meal and atmosphere.’
‘Comfortable, welcoming and an excellent place to stay and dine. I spent two nights here at the start of a trip around some fabulous courses in East Lothian, Fife and The Highlands. Spoiled for choice as to where to play given how many fabulous courses are close by…’
