  I hadn't been to Yen for a good 10 years. We were welcomed warmly and shown to our table. The restaurant was mobbed as there was something on at SECC which is understandable but the place was manic. Servers were rushing past the table every 30 seconds - I was getting dizzy! Had a wait for my dim sum which was fine as they informed me there would be a wait. However when they came they were pretty tasteless and I didn't enjoy them. Main courses came and I had Sweet and Sour chicken - I was lucky if there were 5 pieces of Chicken in it. My husband had Chicken and Black bean sauce and his was a plentiful portion. We paid £40 for a meal I felt like I sat in the middle of a canteen for. I'm not saying I wont be back, but it'll be a while before I venture in again.

  I visited Yen with my boyfriends family for his birthday & I had booked through 5pm - the deal was 25% off the total food bill. On arrival, I gave my voucher to the girl in charge. The meal was excellent but I'm not confident that the 25% was taken off as we ended up paying what I feel was the full price. I'm so annoyed as I just assumed they would have taken off the discount but on reflection, I wish I had queried it as the bill arrived with just a big list of our orders & no mention anywhere of the discount! Anyway, my advice would be to double check they've taken off any discount voucher you have. Other than that - the food and service were great!

• Food excellent but not without faults (Rating 3.6/5)

  This restaurant lets itself down on several fronts. 1) plates are always cold. 2) no hot plate to keep food warm 3) Food not as hot as I and my fellow diners woud have liked 4) We were asked to have our coffee downstairs - obviously to free the table for someone else. Downstairs was much colder and not as pleasant a place to sit No way can we fault the food but the little touches listed above would make a great difference

  Lovely food, excellent value and perfect service, only downside was it was a little quiet but I think this is to be expected on a sat at 2pm
