As always the Sisters, Kelvingrove was amazing! We started with homemade chicken broth with warm home baked bread, fishcakes and homemade chicken liver pate with chutney & homemade oatcakes. I had the pate, which was delicious, and a very generous portion, which I could not finish; the chutney was absolutely amazing as well. The fishcake was composed of several different fish and shellfish and the broth was traditionally Scottish.
For our main courses we had the salmon with chive mash & herb dressing, Roast Limerick ham with mustard mash & buttered cabbage and venison with thyme mash. I had the venison, which I had never had previously, and it was amazing. The meat was tender and not gamey and cooked to perfection. The salmon and ham were both well received; I have a friend who refuses to order anything but the ham, as she loves it so much. All of the courses were served with a side of vegetables and we drank a light and buttery Pinot Grigio.
For dessert we all had the Puff candy meringue with honeycomb ice cream & hot butterscotch sauce. I would highly recommend this, as it was a great combination; although it was so sweet you could almost feel your teeth rotting (in a good way). We finished off with black coffee, espresso and a decaf cappuccino. I was particularly happy to see that they had the option of decaf, as many restaurants do not.
This is an amazing opportunity to have high quality, authentic Scottish cuisine at an outstandingly reasonable price. The Gourmet Glasgow offer was only £15 for three courses including coffee and you can also choose to get a dram of whisky for free as well. Sisters-Kelvingrove only has a few tables so be sure to book in advance to advantage of this great offer!
