It was the first time I'd been in Chequers.

Cocktails, brunch and burgers in West End
Opened in late 2015, Chequers Cocktail House and Grill is on Great Western Road in Glasgow’s West End. It is a subtly lit, speakeasy style hangout with lots of nooks and crannies, hand-crafted wooden features and a dramatic sweeping bar. The mezzanine level is ideal for those seeking a little seclusion while the adjacent beer garden promises communal fun in the sun during the warmer months.
Globe-trotting bar menu
In addition to a keenly priced express lunch menu of burgers and buns, Chequers Cocktail House and Grill has a main menu packed with modern bar classics. A carefully chosen selection of starters ranges from filled potato skins and nachos to wings in a variety of sauces. There are hot sandwiches such as pepper jack beef brisket alongside a strong handmade burger section which, along with chicken, veggie and pulled pork versions, includes beef burgers made from prime brisket and rib.
There are smokehouse BBQ options, a couple of classic salads and, of course, beer-battered haddock and chips. Alternatively, push the boat out and tackle the 12oz rib-eye steak. Desserts such as chocolate cake, cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding vie for attention with a remarkable cocktail menu as a spectacular way to end your meal.
West End attractions and parking
Chequers Cocktail House and Grill is towards the Byres Road end of Great Western Road. There is restricted on-street parking and pay parking at Kelvinbridge Subway station. Hillhead subway is also nearby. Glasgow Botanic Gardens are among the local attractions.
