Brasserie at Oran Mor Review

  • Rating Rating 1.2/5
Extremely disappointing. The service was appalling and the food was average at best. When we arrived, the brasserie was almost empty, but we still waited more than three minutes to be seated. When we were taken to our seats, we were not offered drinks or water for the table, the waiter walked away and left us sitting. After another 5-6 minutes, we had to ask if we could order drinks. The waiter took a drink order from the gentleman at the table and walked away without taking the orders from the ladies at the table. When he eventually returned, we then asked if the ladies could order some drinks. He took an order from one of us and went to walk away – I had to call him back to give my order! When our wine finally arrived, the waiter went away without asking us if we wanted to order food. After another 10 minutes, we had to ask if we could order. (I should point out that other tables arrived after us and were served well before us.) By the time the starters arrived, we were the only table who had not been offered bread and had to ask for this (and one of us was having soup). Again this took a long time to arrive. The starters, other than being under-seasoned, were just about acceptable. For main courses, we chose crab linguine with a rouille crouton, and the Cajun pork loin with potato wedges. We were served overcooked spaghetti rather than linguine, chilli jam rather than rouille and soggy chips instead of potato wedges. We were not notified that any substitutions were to be made. As well as this, the pork loins were overdone. When we brought this to the attention of a member of staff, we were advised he would speak with the chef and get back to us. He then disappeared for a few seconds, and then went back to serving other tables – without letting us know what happening. After a further 15 minutes, we asked another member of staff to look into the matter. He wasn’t able to explain what went wrong with the food, but did offer to take off the cost of some wine. Overall, the service was slow, uninterested and inattentive – to the point of appearing rude. Throughout the meal, we struggled to get our waiter’s attention to order food or drinks and were made to wait an unacceptable length of time for everything we ordered. The food was not as described and sub-standard – certainly not what I have experienced in the past at Oran Mor. Based on this experience, I would not return and would not recommend Oran Mor.
