We ate from the excellent value pre-theatre menu which has a good selection of starters, mains and desserts. I had the smoked chicken caesar salad to start. Portion size was just right and the combination of flavours worked really well. I've never had smoked chicken in a caesar before so that was a delicious first! My friend had the soup of the day which she reported to be very tasty and the perfect hot-but-ready-to-eat temperature.
I had the 6 oz steak and she had the catch of the day - hake. The steak was ordered medium rare and came sliced and served with buttery, mashed celeriac. Again the portion size was just right and the steak and was sizzled on the outside and perfectly pink on the inside. I really enjoyed this dish - the perfect balance of fine dining and comfort food! The hake with potatoes was also divine and flavoursome.
Although the desserts looked lovely we decided we'd save them for another visit as we both felt comfortably sated with our 2 courses.
Service was friendly and attentive. We were eating form the pre-theatre but were not made to feel rushed; far from it. We enjoyed a fruit tea and coffee following our meal and could see the restaurant becoming busier (as you would expect) for Saturday evening dining as we left. The ambience was relaxed and other diners looked to be enjoying their time there just as much as us.
We will definitely be back!
