Went for the market menu deal which is great value for money however, I spent more than I did on food on wine which made for a not so cheap meal. Fine if the food matches but I am sorry to say that I thought it was average. To start I had the black pudding and hens egg. The black pudding was very dry and lacked flavour and the egg didn't add much. My friend has the squid which was just 'nice'. For mains we both had steak which was cooked rare to perfection but let down by the peppercorn sauce which was running and lacking the punch the menu suggested - it was bland. The chips were nothing special. The waitress also came over to ask if we wanted the steak cooked longer which was odd. Dessert - we both had cheese which was the best course. Could have done with a few more biscuits. 3 seemed a bit tight considering the amount of cheese but I was quite full anyway. The wine was lovely. The service was on the whole great although very rushed at the start which was a shame and at the end when paying, the girl asked if we wanted our change brought back or if they were to keep it. We had planned to leave it as a tip anyway but surely that is discretionary and another walk to the table shouldn't be that much of a hardship. Was totally average not terrible not great. Probably wouldn't go back unless someone particularly wanted to and wouldn't pay full price.
