nice place, lovely decor but FREEZING cold this time and last time i was there!
service was average, there seems to be a guy who works there who just walks fast and looks important whilst ignoring diners - weird, his manner was also a bit aloof. the staff also spent an excessive amount of time behind the bar chatting when the restaurant was moderately busy.
food was really nice (the only reason we returned) but almost every course didn't live up to description: chicken and cranberry parfait was a bit like chicken, cream and cranberry blended and splodged on the plate, chicken was meant to be served with wilted spinach but it seemed to be wilted lettuce! desert was meant to have an espresso sauce but didn't, hot choc should come with marshmallows but didn't. none of these things bother me but i dont think customers like it when they are served something that is not as described.
i believe this is a G1 establishment and for me I feel like the service within this group is average, dont know whether this is because staff think you are a cheapskate booking through 5pm or dining from the pre-theatre menu but restaurants shouldnt offer this it doesnt suit them. i feel lately that pre-theatre/5pm bookings seem to equal poorer service than when i am dining through an actual restaurant booking/a la carte menu but maybe i am just imagining it! it's not like i ask for tapwater so i can stick rigidly to the set price of the pre-theatre!
