Another great meal from this restaurant. The deal is £13 for two courses with a 125ml glass of house wine or soft drink but what you also get as an extra is homemade bread with oil & balsamic & an amuse bouche[usually a taster of an unusual homemade soup] tonight was fennel & apple with herb oil. Delicious. We both chose mains & puddings. I had boiled ham shoulder with black pudding mash & greens served with apple sauce. The ham was tender & melted in the mouth. Not being a lover of mash I asked if they would give me chips instead & this was not a problem. Veg was beautiful & tasty. The dish was served with the ham covered in a white sauce which for me was slightly off putting but this turned to be the apple sauce. It was more like a white sauce with apples added to it or an apple cream. It was pleasant but I would have preferred it served separately to be honest but it did not spoil what was a lovely meal. I had a brownie with ice cream for dessert. Most unusual brownie I have had. looked more like a choc fondant with a runny centre & was divine. Not dark choc more like a milk choc which was not expected so very very sweet. Not a problem to me. I loved it. Not homemade ice cream (I don't think) but still nice. My hubby had the venison bridie which he has had before & loved it just as much. Tender meat in puff pastry served with chips carrots & red wine jus. All chips served are hand cut & very yummy. He had a poached pear for dessert. Poached in red wine & port served with a homemade port jelly & crème anglaise. He absolutely loved it. We had a choice of any of the house wines this time, 3 white, 3 red or two rose. Thought that was a great thing to do. Normally you get a choice of the colour. This restaurant is a top class local independent restaurant with great food & wines so to get a deal with all the extras like this is amazing. Cant wait to go back.
