Run by the same two families for more than twenty-five years, the Di Maggio’s group of Italian American restaurants are old favourites in and around Glasgow. The South Side branch at Shawlands’ Cross was established in 1985 which makes it one of the oldest of the group. More than two decades later it continues to serve the community, providing home-cooked food in a family-friendly atmosphere that everyone can enjoy. Rich damask, dark wood and soft lights create a welcoming, laid back ambience, particularly in the evening. Like all Di Maggio’s restaurants, the Shawlands branch is very family friendly with colouring sheets and games for the kids.
Southside Italian
Dining in Di Maggio’s is a relaxed affair, although the wide-ranging menu of Italian and American diner classics might occasion some soul-searching among its loyal Glasgow following. How does anyone choose between Cajun chicken pizza and a dish of penne piccante or garlic mushrooms and the Di Maggio’s Bad Ass Louisiana chicken wings? Factor in the strip loin steaks, burgers, BBQ ribs and a strong selection of seafood dishes and it’s quite a surprise that anyone ever manages to make their mind up. In reality, they don’t make their minds up. Regular customers just make a mental note of the dishes they have yet to try and bear them in mind for their next inevitable visit to the Shawlands branch of Di Maggio’s in Glasgow.
