About Thrisstle Seafood & Grill

Dining Out
Meal well presented and steak done to my request. Got the feeling as I was on a "deal", the service was not as good as other diners in the restaurant. Coffee was advertised as being served with shortbread, but was told that they had run out of the biscuits - small complaint but this is also a hotel and while apology was given, nothing was offered in its place!! Decor a bit stark and lacking atmosphere in spite of being busy. Was glad to be on a "meal deal" and not paying the proper prices.

Family-run Scottish restaurant in Strathblane
Named after the old Scots word for thistle, the Thrisstle restaurant is part of the Kirkhouse Inn on Strathblane’s Glasgow Road. The building dates back over 400 years and, in the past, has been used as stables and a schoolhouse. Now refurbished, it’s a family-run business and the restaurant takes great pride in using locally sourced beef, venison and even locally reared Oxford Cross pigs. As well as a separate sports bar, the restaurant has its own whisky bar, the Baurley-bree. There is entertainment most weekends and plenty of outdoor seating for the sunny days.
Locally sourced ingredients
Dishes using west coast seafood and Ardunan Farm pork are typical of the kitchen’s commitment to local produce. Popular starters at Thrissle include the seafood chowder and the seared scallops with McMillan’s black pudding and a poached free range egg.
The seared loin of venison with crushed potatoes and a wild berry and Drambuie jus comes highly recommended as does the beer battered haddock. There is a range of sauces to complement the different steaks on offer and, for burger fans, there are three to choose from, including a venison burger.
Local attractions
Just half an hour from both Glasgow and Stirling, the Kirkhouse in Strathblane is ideally placed for those looking to explore Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National. The hotel is handy for walkers doing the West Highland Way or the John Muir Way. Glengoyne distillery is a popular local attraction.
