Before I start I have to say that I have visited this bar on several occasions but never before for food. I have always enjoyed it there so was looking forward to a meal then a few drinks afterwards. When the staff didn't have a record of our booking when we got there, we should have heeded the warning sign.
We went to the bar while they set us up a table and after quite slow service my boyfriend was eventually served with what can only be described as a pint of lukewarm foam in a Kronenburg glass. However, one of the friendly waiting staff came for us at this point and led us to our now made up table.
For starters I had some King Prawns with a sesame soy sauce which was basically 3 prawns thrown in the deep fat fryer that tasted of nothing other than grease.
For mains I had the belly of pork with noodles. It must have been a very overweight pig as the very thin slice of "meat" consisted of about 99% fat. The noodles were also far too spicy. My boyfriend had the chicken in brandy sauce which he seemed to enjoy, other than the burnt roast potatoes. He didn't seem to enjoy having to dry off his own glass when he got his next bottle of beer though. For desert we shared a sticky toffee pudding which was really nice.
The waitresses were nice but I couldn't help wonder if there was an issue with under staffing. We got our bill but it then took someone 25 minutes to come take our money. There were only 2 girls on but the place wasn't THAT busy, around 20-25 people in at a time. They also seemed to find enough time to hang around their computer terminal/till. By this point we were kind of fed up so went home.
As I said at the start I have been to the bar before and I probably will be back in the future but certainly NOT for food. There are much nicer eating establishments nearby also available on 5PM. Try them then go to Maggie Mays for a drink after.
