Initial impressions were good with nice, friendly staff and a warm, friendly atmosphere. We liked the way the restaurant looked. However, it went downhill as soon as we saw the menu. Instead of a vegetarian shepherd's pie, it was the usual rissotto whipped out for the vegetarians up and down the UK! I was offered the artichoke tart from the main menu. This turned out to be some salad served on top of pastry the size of a Ryvita. When I asked twice for something to accompany this, I was told this was the pre-theatre serving (it was barely passable as a starter). However, we were later offered a free dessert to quieten the growls of hunger still present after two courses! The starter of chicken liver pate with toast was actually a mousse with un-toasted bread; the tomato and basil soup tasted of Heinz tomato soup, and the bread was dry and tasteless. Only one of the main courses - fish and chips - was of any quality.
