My sisters and I have been to Guys on several occasions and have always found it one of our best dining experiences. sadly this was not the case last night.
We sat down at our table at five past seven, it took around ten minutes for a waitress to take our drinks order and pushing another twenty minutes before our meals order was actually taken, this despite two attempts to draw a waitress's attention to our plight.
Our food was duly despatched, the spicy soup was fine but certainly an acquired taste, the chicken pate was tasty and filling and the prawn cocktail did have a healthy portion of plump prawns however without the accompanying sauce these would have had little taste.
The lamb shank was cooked perfectly and it was no inconvenience for the restaurant to give an alternative sauce to that on the menu, The Glasgow Tapas lived up to their high reputation however the breaded fish was dry, possibly from being under a hotplate for too long and whilst my smoked haddock in hollandaise sauce was tasty, the accompanying poached egg was served at soft boiled rather than as runny as a good poached egg should be.
Again service was not at its best when an order for two additional drinks took 15 minutes to arrive.
I do acknowledge that the waiting staff can only serve meals at the pace that the kitchen send them out but I do feel it could have been more attentive to looking for additional drinks and more importantly, taking meal orders rather than clearing plates away.
Overall the food was fine, but Im afraid that's as good as we can go, fine.
