Cafe Cossachok has a distinctly bohemian feel with it’s rustic heavy wood tables and walls simply painted in red and hung with a few pictures. It regularly plays host to live music with everything from jazz to acoustic country to singing Russian school children and there’s a small gallery, which is lovely to peruse between courses or after your meal.
The menu is Russian/Eastern European and features authentic classics like moreish blinis, wholesome borscht and creamy stroganoff (beef or chicken) cooked the way you wish you could make it yourself. As well as this there plenty of culinary surprises from Tzimes (described as ‘quite simply, duck to die for’) to juicy roasted peppers stuffed with rice and ground pork or vegetables. The home-made pickles are the perfect nibbles while you’re deliberating over the menu, and look out for the home made coleslaw that comes with many of the dishes, it’s amazing.
