I think I'd heard about Avant Garde from a friend who does restaurant blogs. I suspect the place is more an evening venue because we were the only ones in at lunch time - but don't let that put you off. I had a huge bowl of Scotch Broth to start, packed with barley and very tasty. My main course was chicken Milanese. A nice sized piece of chicken breast, flattened and fried in bread crumbs and served with spaghetti Napoli. The chicken was perfectly cooked, succulent and full of flavour and the spaghetti accompaniment was perfect. A really lovely lunch. Meals are only part of what Avant Garde is about. They have a large bar space and a small stage for live bands. I'd particularly like to come back on a Sunday afternoon when they have a smooth jazz session.
