About WEST On The Green
Christmas Present, Fantastic Experience
Myself and a friend both went along to the brewery for the tour and meal. Pleasant staff and the restaurant area is very smart with a great selection of beers straight from the brewery. The tour was very laid back and showed how they make their beer. Taster session was led by Jack, who explained the beers on offer and gave everyone a great tour. Meal was very good and washed down with a couple of fresh pints. All in all a great night.
Perfect for drinking on a School Night
Booked this for a mid-week date night and couldn't fault any of it. The tour was very interesting and Jack, our tour guide, was great. You could tell he was genuinely passionate about West and what they do. I wasn't a beer drinker when I started the night but I definitely left converted! Our meal was lovely as well, always a great choice of food whenever we've been before and last night was the same. We went off home to enjoy some more in our complimentary tankards as well!
German beerhall in Glasgow East End
WEST is a stylish German beerhall and brewery in the Old Winding House, part of the Templeton Building, on Glasgow Green. The only UK brewery to produce all of its brews in accordance with the Reinheitsgebot, the German Purity Law of 1516, WEST can be summed up by their motto ‘Glaswegian Heart. German Head’. Decked out in wood panelling, the beerhall has a warm rustic feel. The beer garden is very popular on sunny days.
Scottish ingredients in German cuisine
The WEST menu showcases fresh, natural Scottish ingredients and traditional German cuisine, all prepared by the kitchen’s award-winning chefs. Popular starters include the goulash soup; the rollmop herring with potato salad and the crispy potato pancakes with apple sauce.
There are wurst, or sausage, options including currywurst and Nürnberger bratwürstl with sauerkraut. The burger selection offers several choices and dedicated carnivores may want to weigh up the relative merits of the pork schnitzel and the rump steak with chips. Lighter options include the chicken Caesar salad or the Shetland mussels cooked in a tomato and WEST Munich Red broth. There are non-meat options and further fish choices such as the pan-fried salmon fillet served with horseradish mash and buttered asparagus.
