The place itself is lovely. The serving staff were very nice and friendly.
The food sadly was some of the worst I have eaten.
Smoked mackerel pate was really nice although so little care taking in removing the bones. Tomato soup was boiled to within an inch of its life. It had split and had a faint burnt taste. The seasoning was very poor and the addiction of a bright green basil oil was just frustrating as it the efforts should seriously be put into doing the simple things well before adding needless finishing touches.
Wild mushroom risotto. The most overlooked rice I have ever seen! Tasted completely bland, no seasoning, and boiled snips of mushroom sat almost bobbing in the stock which hadn't been cooked out.
Roasted Guinea fowl with a luke warm and haggis mash. The skin and fat hadn't seen a hot pan for rendering for even a second as it was pale and soft and flowing with fat.
I ordered fish and chips as an alternative which was decent.
Not overly fussed but if this hadn't been on a 5pm deal I would have been gutted and it would have been the first time in my life is have seriously thought about saying i wasn't happy paying for the food.
